Select users will very soon be able to preview the new PSN Online ID Change feature, Sony has just announced. The function will enter the preview program in beta on PS4 for registered testers, and then will release fully in Q1 2019.
Until the end of November, those testers will be allowed to change ID "as many times as you want", Sony promises, with the caveat that the first change is free and those after will cost €9.99/£7.99 (or €4.99/£3.99 for PS Plus members).
Renamed users can also opt to keep their previous ID shown next to the new ID, for friends to identify them by. On top of that, it's worth noting that not every game will support the name change, as Sony states it "is compatible with PS4 games originally published after 1st April 2018, and a large majority of the most played PS4 games that were released before this date".
At the same time, not every release for PS3 and PS Vita will be compatible, although a full list of games will be made available in early 2019. Finally, Sony has offered a revert feature for free, if for any reason everything goes wrong.
