Update: Since the event, Konami have confirmed that Ground Zeroes is still a separate game from Phantom Pain, playing as a prologue to MGSV, though wouldn't details whether they'd be part of the same game package or released separately.

Original Story: Kojima Productions opened their "Core of MGS: Ground Zeroes" talk at GDC with a gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The footage saw Snake awake after a nine year coma and trying to escape from hospital. His atrophied muscles meant that escape was a slow one - and saw him joined by Ishamel, the bandaged man seen in mysterious Phantom Pain videos that have teased this reveal - that both it and the open-world Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes are one in the same - up to now.

An accompanying trailer shows both Benedict Miller, as well as (possibly) a younger Psycho Mantis making appearances, suggesting Kojima Productions is more firmly connecting the narrative tissue between the Big Boss storyline and the Solid Snake arc.

While the demo was running on PC, the trailer ended with both Xbox 360 and PS3 logos - next gen platforms haven't been announced yet.

We'll have the trailer on the site soon.

Update: And here it is:
