While perhaps not the most popular fighting game series around, the Soul Calibur franchise has a long heritage and a passionate following. The next chapter, Soul Calibur VI is due out on October 19th, but after that, it may be lights out for the series, according to its producer.
Soul Calibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo revealed in an interview with DualShockers that it took a lot of convincing getting this chapter greenlit, and if it fails to hit projections, that might be it.
"The first thing is that the IP itself of the SoulCalibur franchise had low expectations from the company. It was actually facing a crisis of maybe disappearing. It took time for me to convince the company. Since the SoulCalibur brand is facing a crisis, we have nothing to lose, so we just decided to do what we want to do."
Do you think Soul Calibur VI will meet expectations and secure the future of the series?
