Anthem a "continued evolution" of Bioware's storytelling

It's the same emphasis on story, but with "a more social basis."

We've seen a lot of Anthem in the recent months, and we talked with game director Jon Warner about the project at Gamescom in Cologne this past week, where we asked how exactly the team at Bioware are sticking to their storytelling roots with a shared world such as this.

"Honestly if you look at the games that we've created on a spectrum, we've always been kind of evolving how we tell stories, so Anthem isn't so much really a departure; it's a continued evolution of how we're telling stories at Bioware. And so it's taking all that experience that we've built up from making Baldur's Gate all the way up through Neverwinter and Jade and KOTOR and of course Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and applying those lessons just into something that allows you to share that great story with your friends."

"So we keep that kind of principle close to our hearts, and we always want to create experiences that allow you to be the hero of your own story and yet be able to, like you said, share it on a more social basis."

Are you confident Bioware can deliver a strong story in this shared world?

Anthem

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"It engages and entertains even if it is a rather distilled and disjointed experience compared to the studio's usual work."
