Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy films have been a success, in no small part due to director James Gunn, and while he was recently fired by Disney, it seems that rumours of his return to the franchise aren't true after all.

Variety got an exclusive story about the subject, and Disney seems very certain that James Gunn will not be coming back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The third film was supposed to go into full production at the beginning of 2019, but at the moment Disney is still looking for a new director. According to Variety, "it is still unknown if the production schedule will be affected by the change in the director's seat."

Gunn is rumoured to be a wanted man by a lot of other studios, so it remains to be seen what the future holds for him and for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
