Sniper Ghost Warrior has had a fair few games in its franchise already, and while Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 had its flaws, developer CI Games has today revealed a new iteration in their franchise, called Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, which is scheduled to launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2019 and change up the formula a little.

This time players will be dragged into cold and inhospitable Siberia to experience a single-player campaign based on - you guessed it - contracts. These require you to complete missions by meeting required objectives in order to get the necessary rewards, a little bit like a mercenary. The game will also offer secondary objectives which will allow the player to accumulate bonuses, and at any time it's possible to repeat the missions already completed to accumulate more money.

What's the reason for this shift in approach though? Well, CI Games Chief Executive Officer Marek Tymiński said:

"We were too ambitious in terms of the scope of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, but we've learned from our missteps. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will be more focused on emergent gameplay with an open-ended mission design that the team feels strong about, but it will not be set in an open world. It is going to be a more tactical, more condensed experience and the game will offer plenty of replayability, both on the single-player campaign and on the multiplayer modes."

This game will therefore offer a stable FPS for the entire duration and will optimise everything thanks to a new generation game engine, all of which is part of the improvements that CI Games wants to make to the series.

Sniper Ghost Warriors Contracts is expected in 2019, but we don't have anything more specific than that. Do you like the new direction the franchise is going in?
