Doom is a game that's all about the power fantasy, sending demons to their death with your powerful arsenal, but something that's been tweaked this time around is your melee attacks, which Creative Director Hugo Martin talked to us about during our interview with him and Game Director Marty Stratton at QuakeCon this year.
"The melee is greatly improved," Martin explained. "The melee strike is pretty meaningful in the game now. We think of it as a jab - your guns are the right cross, and the glory kills are like the super uppercut, you know, the finishing move. So you're going to be able to have a really fun what we call 'boxing the demons', you know, stun them a little bit when they're coming in for attacks, which will set up a shot for the gun. We wanted to create a new little wrinkle to the rhythm of the Doom dance."
