Back in 2014 the UK Government implemented tax breaks for UK-based video game makers who could demonstrate cultural relevance in their games. This financial support has been embraced with open arms by studios up and down the country, to the extent that since they launched the scheme £230 million has been paid out to over 770 claims. Those claims equate to 480 games, with 345 claims made last year resulting in £105 million in payments.
TIGA's CEO, Dr Richard Wilson, commented: "The video games industry has proved broadly resilient to the wider economic turbulence of Brexit and uncertainties around trade tariffs. Yet this doesn't mean we can take our eyes off the prize of the UK becoming the leading place in the world to make video games. We have a way to go and - as ever - more can be done."
