Commandos set for comeback as Kalypso picks up rights

Publisher picks up rights to Pyro Studios titles.

Kalypso Media has announced that they have acquired all the rights to the Commandos franchise as well as all other Pyro Studios assets such as Praetorians and Imperial Glory. Commandos was a series of real-time strategy games set during World War II that offered squad-based tactical missions. Kalypso says it aims to develop a new games based on these properties "for all platforms", as well as "an extensive adaptation of the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms". Surely, a new Commandos title will be high on the agenda.

The founder of Pyro Studio, Ignacio Pérez, founder of Pyro Studios (now Pyro Mobile): "We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time".

For his part, Kalypso's founder and managing director, Simon Hellwig, states: "We have great respect for what the Pyro Studios team have accomplished and created throughout the history of the studio. We see it as our responsibility to revive and further develop these beloved games for fans around the world. Of course, this will include the development of a completely new game for all platforms, but also an extensive adaptation of the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms. We're incredibly excited about the opportunities, and will begin speaking to potential development studios in the near future."

Are you happy that it now looks like we're going to see a new entry in the Commandos series?
