Hot on the heels of a leak that revealed its existence, we've got a more official source confirming that FIFA 19 will be released on Nintendo Switch later this year. We've even got one or two details to share.

The news was confirmed by Andrei Lazarescu, supervising producer for the FIFA 18 World Cup update, who said as much in an interview with Dream Team. According to Lazarescu, FIFA 19 on the Switch will have improved graphics but still will not use the Frostbite engine.

"We didn't want to create a dumbed-down version of the Frostbite engine," said Lazarescu. "The intent was never to have a one-off custom engine that we're never going to touch again. It was to have that as a baseline and then build from there."

EA has yet to officially reveal FIFA 19, but it sounds like once again there'll be no RPG story mode in the Switch version and fans hoping that the Journey mode makes it over to the handheld console may well be disappointed. EA is preparing its E3 announcements and we'll find out either way on Saturday, June 9.
