It's been widely rumoured, but to be perfectly honest we found it hard to believe, but as it turns out there won't be a solo campaign in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from Treyarch. Instead, the narrative will be part of the various multiplayer modes, whether it's the traditional multiplayer, the Zombies mode (spanning three maps at launch), or the new Battle Royale mode called Blackout.
"Black Ops 4 doesn't have a traditional campaign," commented Treyarch boss Mark Lamia during the reveal. "We're weaving narrative into each of the modes."
It's a bold move considering the fact that many fans still feel the campaign has value, even if most players stay for the multiplayer, and it remains to be seen how fans feel about. Regardless, with the meaty Zombies offering at launch, the usual suite of multiplayer modes, and the massive "winner-takes-all" Blackout map, there will still be lots to do in Black Ops 4 for players.
