Far Cry Arcade: we wanted to "give it its own identity"

Far Cry 5 is on the horizon, and it's launching with Far Cry Arcade, a selection of tools that will give players the chance to create their own content using assets pulled from a number of key Ubisoft franchises. We talked to lead game designer Clark Davies about the features on the way.

"It's a feature that's been built into the Far Cry games for quite a while now," Davies told us, "going back to Far Cry 3 and even Far Cry 2. "But this time we really wanted to try and give it its own identity, try and really give it its own life. So what we've done is we've now called it Far Cry Arcade instead of just a map editor, and now we're really trying to push on variety and more content than ever before."

Davies continued: "We'd say that we're giving our players the opportunity to create an infinite amount of maps with an infinite amount of fun. We have content now that has been brought in not just in Far Cry games, like Far Cry 5 and 4 and Far Cry Primal, but even outside of the Far Cry franchise. Maps, you can build from Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, from Watch Dogs, from Assassin's Creed: Unity, and after we launch the game there'll be more content packs as well, that we'll be putting online for everyone to download and have even greater variety from."

Arcade doesn't simply involve map editing, however, it's also home to the multiplayer portion of the game. Given what we've seen so far there looks to be plenty of potential for interesting and unique content.
