The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences has just held its annual DICE awards, celebrating the best games of the last year over a number of different categories, in which the coveted title of Game of the Year was awarded to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It wasn't just about the games though, as Special Corporate Advisor at Nintendo Genyo Takeda was also celebrated with a Lifetime Achievement Award, the seventh that the Academy has awarded.

"Every year, the DICE Awards brings the global interactive entertainment industry under one roof to recognise and honor the very best in video games - the games that captivated and inspired us, and kept us entertained for hours on end," said Meggan Scavio, president of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. "On behalf of the Academy, I am thrilled to congratulate this year's winners of the 21st DICE Awards."

Breath of the Wild had a very successful night overall, winning Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction; Outstanding Achievement in Game Design; and Adventure Game of the Year on top of its grand prize. In terms of Immersive Reality Technical Achievement and Immersive Reality Game of the Year though, these went to Lone Echo/Echo Arena.

On the handheld side of things, Fire Emblem Heroes won Mobile Game of the Year, while Metroid: Samus Returns nabbed Handheld Game of the Year. Other successful games on the night include PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Cuphead too, who both got their own recognition.

For all the winners be sure to head over to the official website. Is Zelda a worthy winner?
