Nintendo of America has confirmed via Twitter that the company is indeed partnering with Illumination (Despicable Me, Minions) to make a movie starring Mario. This project is being co-produced by none other than the "father" of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Chris Meledandri, the founder and CEO of Illumination Entertainment.

This is a confirmation of a leak from last November. Later (about three weeks ago in fact) Nintendo's president, Tatsumi Kimishima, said that Nintendo wants to reach an agreement since they want the Mario movie to be ready in time for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

This new Mario movie is most likely an animated one, but other than that there are not that many details known at this point. Stay tuned in Gamereactor to find out more, once new info appears.

Will an animated Mario movie have better luck at the box office than a live-action film that released in 1993 (a movie that we watched recently, as a matter of fact)? Leave your comments below.
