China is perhaps the world's most lucrative gaming market, yet there isn't a lot of Chinese games that make it over here. My Time At Portia, a new social simulator with an RPG twist bucks that trend and looks to build on the success of the likes of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. It gathered almost $150,000 when it was kickstarted last autumn, and now backers are able to give it a first try on Steam Early Access.

Team17, who's handling publishing duties, has just announced that this early version is available for £15.99/€19,99. The developers estimate they'll need around 9 months in Early Access pointing to a release this autumn when we'll also see console versions.

My Time At Portia combines elements from the aforementioned titles, and naturally from Marvelous' Harvest Moon as well, but adds more freedom with 3D movement and camera. It starts out with the player restoring the family workshop, thus being able to craft objects to satisfy the needs and desires other inhabitants of Portia. But of course this depends on resources, and that's linked to the farming and mining systems. Add to that some combat and levelling, and the good ol' Rune Factory games, also from Marvelous, may as well come to mind.

The Animal Crossing nod is found at your house. Pathea Games, the small Chinese studio behind the project, also offers a bunch of decorative items for a more personal touch. Other activities include cooking, fishing, or chatting around.
