Last week we reported that Minecraft boss Matt Booty had been promoted to corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, meaning previous operations chief Helen Chiang was stepping into his previous role, and now in an interview she gave with Popsugar we've found out that Minecraft is in a pretty strong place right now.

"We just recently set a new record in December for monthly active users, so now we're at 74 million monthly active users — and that's really a testament to people coming back to the game, whether it's through the game updates or bringing in new players from across the world," Chiang said. "That's really our goal, to keep building the community that we have." What's more is that the interview also claims 144 million copies of the game have been sold over its multiple platforms.

In terms of the focuses for her new role, she added that "the first one is bringing over more people to Bedrock through Nintendo, and that's coming out pretty soon. The second is expanding the features in the game that the players love, so we have the update Aquatic coming out pretty soon. The third one is the new graphics engine that we talked about both at MINECON and E3, the superduper graphics pack. They're all areas that I'm really excited about and that the team is working very hard on."

If these figures are all true it speaks volumes to the widespread appeal of Minecraft, which has taken the world by storm in the last few years, be it on PC, Switch, or the Xbox One family of consoles. Have you yet to try Minecraft?
