Nintendo had a pretty good year last year, releasing not only the Nintendo Switch but also a lot of great software for the console too, from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to Super Mario Odyssey, but in Nintendo's announcement of the 30 best-selling digital games from the Nintendo Switch-eShop, one game topped both of these for the hybrid console.

This chart is split between global downloads and Japanese sales indication, and neither of these contains major titles like Super Mario Odyssey or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Instead, Stardew Valley (which was the most downloaded Switch game in 2017 globally), Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, and Sonic Mania found the most love from Switch fans.

Snipperclips: Let's Cut it out, together! is the highest first party IP that can be found in the top 30 list, which is heavily dominated by indies both globally and even in Nintendo's residence Japan. Nintendo's collective Mario line-up and even Zelda are known for having strong overall sales, but these must've been mainly physical. The company didn't share exact sales figures, but this gave us a great idea of which games did best throughout the last nine months, the full list of which you can see below:

  1. Stardew Valley
  2. Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition
  3. Sonic Mania
  4. Rocket League
  5. Snipperclips
  6. Overcooked
  7. Shovel Knight
  8. Fast RMX
  9. Kamiko
  10. Steamworld Dig 2
