This week's UK retail charts are in (though they've yet to be officially released in all their glory on the website, hence we don't have the individual formats chart), and it is a familiar game that once again rises to the top as 2018 releases have yet to show up. Grand Theft Auto V was originally released back in September of 2013, but clearly, with many people picking up new consoles for Christmas, it is one of the first games new console owners buy for PS4 and Xbox One.

Call of Duty: WWII came in second, while FIFA 18 managed third. Interestingly Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild rank above Super Mario Odyssey indicating they are the top choices for fresh Switch owners.

All Formats:

1. Grand Theft Auto V / Rockstar
2. Call of Duty: WWII / Activision
3. FIFA 18 / EA Sports
4. Assassin's Creed Origins / Ubisoft
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Nintendo
6. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds / Microsoft
7. Star Wars Battlefront II / EA Games
8. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild / Nintendo
9. Forza Motorsport 7 / Microsoft
10. Super Mario Odyssey / Nintendo
