Gearbox and 2K announced today that Duke Nukem Forever has recieved a release date - it will launch on May 3 in the US and in the rest of the world three days later. That marks the end of the now-legendary development cycle of the title, which was officially announced in 1997 and that we for a moment thought we'd never see when original developer 3D Realms crashed.

"Take-Two also intends to develop a title based on the Duke Nukem franchise for release on the Game Boy Advance..." Oh, no. Wait. That quote is from a press release from 2001, stating that 2K planned to bring Duke Nukem to Nintendo machines such as the GBA and Gamecube. These days, the game is developed for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Duke, it seems, is really coming back.
