Disney, who already owns Pixar, Lucasarts and Marvel, has now purchased the majority of 21st Century Fox for a neat little sum of $52 billion, a proposed deal that for sure will reshape Hollywood and of course makes Disney the most powerful studio of all time.
This deal makes it possible for X-Men to join in the new Avengers movie for instance. And this also puts Avatar under Disney ownership, the biggest grossing movie of all time with three sequels under way.
Disney isn't buying all of Fox as Rupert Murdoch will retain control of Fox News Channel, the Fox broadcast network and newspapers, it does however, include cable entertainment brands such as FX and National Geographic.
All of this is pending regulatory approval, something that's not a given considering the tremendous impact the deal will have on the media landscape.
Thanks, LA Times.
