Destiny 2 launched earlier this year on consoles (September) and PC (November) to near-universal praise, and now that players have hit max level and have completed the vast majority of the content that Bungie laid on for them at launch, we're left waiting for an injection of new activities to busy ourselves with.

Cue Curse of Osiris, the upcoming expansion for the sci-fi shooter that's due to land on December 5. Bungie gave us some interesting details earlier this week about the story, characters, and locations coming in the content drop, but we also recently had the chance to talk to project lead Sam Jones and art director Dave Matthews about what players can expect next month.

First, we asked Jones about when and where Curse of Osiris takes place, who had this to say about the expansion's story:

"Curse of Osiris takes places immediately after the conclusion of the Destiny 2 campaign. Your guardian is dispatched to Mercury by Ikora Rey; they are on a journey of discovery. The game is all about mystery, about uncovering sequences. Osiris is a legend, he's super badass. He's both exiled and missing, so your job is to go and track him down in the Infinite Forest. The Infinite Forest is this construct on Mercury which the Vex created, a simulated reality. It's very mysterious, very weird. So, you go there and he basically is obsessed with the Vex. He is the key to stop the Vex and their mysterious plans.

"We have a bold cast of characters: we have Osiris, obviously, and his companion, a ghost name Sagira. It's the first time that we experience a new ghost in Destiny. She is very quirky, very snobby; she's a fun ghost! She's a real contrast to existing ghosts that we have so we are very pleased to experience that! We also have Brother Vance who returns from the previous Destiny. He was a key NPC for the Trials of Osiris and he's back to be the leader of the cult of Osiris. Finally, we have Ikora Rey. She is the student of Osiris and the expansion basically explores the relationship of Osiris and Ikora."

After that Matthews then told us more about the new locations we're going to be visiting:

"As the story says, the place that you actually get to go to is something that I think is actually pretty big. When you look at Destiny as a whole there are tons of stories to tell and we tell a great story with goals. In the first Destiny if you went undefeated in the Trials of Osiris you opened up a chest. Then you went to the Lighthouse, on the surface of Mercury, and just saw a glimpse of what the Sun looks like, scorching its surface. In Curse of Osiris we were allowed to go to somewhere that people wanted to see, that we glimpsed in Destiny 1. It's huge for us!

"In our expansion, we are taking that space and we're expanding upon it and you get to see far more of the whole destination, essentially. We're making it social; now it's accessible to all the players, "he added, before finally saying: "It's an opportunity for people to explore the surface of Mercury and what it has to offer: activities, quests, lost sectors, adventures... and we created a new public space."

Curse of Osiris is set to hit Destiny 2 on December 5 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Do you have high hopes for the expansion?
