People have to some degree started talking about what the best game of 2017 will be, and one of the most polarising subjects is if PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds can win or even be eligible for the game of the year awards. We had the pleasure of talking with the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene and the game's producer Chang Han Kim about the extremely popular early access game yesterday, so we decided to ask their opinion on the subject. Greene had a fairly modest reply:

"Speaking personally, I don't want to win a game of the year award. I don't think we deserve it. Just look at all the fantastic games we've gotten this year. Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are just two of the games that have raised the bar for our industry. Both Guerrilla and Nintendo have worked on these incredible games for several years to deliver polished and brilliant experiences, while we haven't even left early access yet. By all means, I would accept the reward, but at the same time feel bad for taking away rightful praise from Guerrilla and Nintendo."

Kim agreed with Greene, while also saying that winning an award wouldn't necessarily be a reflection of the game's quality, but instead the team's incredible and ongoing work on the game. If they don't win an award, he hopes that they can do just as a fantastic job next year, and by that winning it in 2018.

Do you think PUBG deserves to win game of the year?
