Remember back when the Nintendo Switch launched in March, there were rumors surrounding a potentially similar handheld being worked on by Sony? The company neither confirmed nor denied the reports, but they slowly died down. Now though, it seems Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House has shot down any notion that Sony will continue to work within the handheld space.

In a recent interview conducted by Bloomberg at Tokyo Game Show, House explained that he sees limited potential in that particular market:

"The Vita experience was that, outside of Japan and Asia, there was not a huge demand. The lifestyle shift toward the dominance of smartphones as the single key device that is always with you, was the determining factor."

"The Nintendo device is a hybrid device and that's a different approach and strategy. We have not seen that as being a huge market opportunity"

Sadly, this may mark the death of the dream of a new Sony handheld. What's your favourite PSVita or PSP game?
