Some of you might have seen this coming when Bruce Straley, who directed both Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, The Last of Us and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, said that he wouldn't be developing The Last of Us: Part II, but instead take a yearlong sabbatical. Now he's made it official.
Straley has announced that he's leaving Naughty Dog, as he feels the time is right for it:
"(...) after heading up three extremely demanding projects, and taking some extended time away from the office, I found my energy focusing in other directions, and I slowly realized this was the signal that it's time to move on."
This is most definitely deserved. Not only has he worked at the talented studio for 18 years, but every last person we've spoken with at Naughty Dog has told us that Straley has been an invaluable part of the studio both as a developer and as a person.
We wish you the very best in the future, Bruce.
