Bandai Namco released some new assets from their upcoming vampiric action-RPG Code Vein today along with some details on the gameplay system, a couple of characters and the character creation.
As you may have guessed players will be allowed to create the own avatar in game choosing gender, body type, hair style and voice. There's great detail to what you can customise as evident by the screens with examples below.
Character Creation:
Two new characters were also revealed, Louis and Io, who will accompany the player. Here are the official descriptions courtesy of the press release:
"The young leader Louis really wants to help Revenants suffering from bloodlust. He ventures into the isolated land of VEIN looking for the source of Blood Beads to use it as a substitute for human blood. With his one-handed sword he is a swift attack expert and can elude with the armor type Ogre."
"Io is a female Revenant who explores with the protagonists. She has no memories about her past but she knows very well VEIN. She will be extremely useful for the player character!"
Sadly we did not receive any images of Io, but she is reminiscent of Shio from the God Eater series.
As for the battle system, Bandai Namco revealed some of the key features that we've heard some about previously, but now with more detail.
There is as you'd expect from an action-RPG these days a Stamina Gauge, so you'll need to manage attacks, dodges, dashing and your Drain with this in mind. Drain is an action that lets you replenish Ichor points if successful, and you'll also increase the maximum number of Ichor stock. Special Drain, which can only be performed after a parry, a attack from the back or a combo, let's you do the same while also dealing massive damage.
The Gift system lets you use 8 gifts during combat and they basically work as perks. Some of these are passive, and can be gained with items or gear.
There is also something called the Focus system, which temporarily increases you abilities as you dodge or get attacked when surrounded by multiple enemies.
In addition to this there's the Partner Action, where your NPC companion steps in to support you by flanking an enemy, enhancing your skills or sharing Health Points.
