ThroughLine Games is currently working on their new project Forgotton Anne, coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and we recently stopped by their studio to talk to creative director Alfred Nguyen about the game, who told us a little bit about what they're trying to do differently with this game.
"Forgotton Anne is a 2D cinematic adventure game, and what we're really trying to do is push the envelope in terms of cinematic storytelling in the genre of 2D platformer," he explained. "So it's a very story-driven experience and what it does is it combines elements of adventure game mechanics such as dialogue choices - you can affect the storyline - but also light puzzle-platforming. And we do this in a number of ways in terms of all our animations are painstakingly hand-drawn frame by frame, and the cutscenes, which are traditionally, normally pre-rendered in 2D cinematic games, they are all rendered in-game, so you have this seamless transition between storytelling and in-game gameplay."
Does this sound like a concept that can work well?
