Neverdie has announced that MMORPG pioneer Richard 'Lord British' Garriott has joined Neverdie Studios' advisory team in order to provide insight into their "revolutionary gaming infrastructure on the Ethereum Blockchain," as phrased by the press release. This includes the gamificiation of Neverdie's platform using Teleport tokens and Neverdie coins.

To give a bit more detail about these tokens and coins, the Teleport tokens will be used to travel across worlds, from one game to another, whereas the Neverdie coins will be used to buy more lives, both of which will be used to create a monetised infrastructure "that will drive the growth of the virtual goods economy, thus supporting gamified jobs as a way to offset traditional jobs lost to AI and VR advancements."

"We are addressing a global grand challenge to impact and empower a billion gamers and set the virtual goods economy on an exponential growth curve," said Jon 'Neverdie' Jacobs. "The wise council of Richard 'Lord British' Garriott, a Legendary Avatar, Adventurer and World Builder, will provide priceless insight into the development of the gamified Virtual Reality infrastructure to unite MMORPGs and Virtual Worlds with the goal of creating a billion gamified jobs."

As a whole the vision is to harness the potential economic power of gamers to create an exclusive economy within this space on the blockchain, triggering exponential growth in universal game tokens that bridge themselves between worlds. The Ethereum blockchain and its ERC20 token provides the means for MMO and virtual goods to become "inter-operable through peer to peer trading, the blockchain ledger, and decentralised, transparent smart contract game mechanics."

Lord British himself will be helping advise specifically on the structure of VR government, which will be given a certain number of Teleport tokens and Neverdie coins, advising as teleporters are built between virtual worlds. On top of that he'll also help balance Neverdie's own universal game economy.

"What Neverdie is building is far beyond just gamification and monetisation - they are proposing a new VR economy that is poised to fundamentally shift when, where and why people engage in gaming," said Richard Garriott. "When I first started in RPG and MMORPGs, I only imagined gaming would lead to this; and now I'm thrilled to offer my years of expertise toward building a system that can solve real world economic problems with gaming."

When we interviewed Lord British in the past, we also asked about his views on Neverdie's real work in virtual worlds, and here's what he had to say:

"I think we have to [look at it] and here is why I think we have to. As soon as you have an online world, my development team is too small, by orders of magnitude, and we'll always be too small to create content fast enough to keep up with the player consumption of content."

"The Virtual World is by necessity dependent upon player created content. Now, the problem with most player created content is that is not very good; most players are not professional world builders. So if you look at their house, the vast majority is not good. Early Virtual Worlds that didn't think as a business are filled with junk the players have left behind that is not pretty interesting. You have to wave through to find rare moments of interesting content."

"The only way to clean up the junk is to reward the people that do good content. And so you need to have the excuse to reabsorb content that is not economically self sufficient and reward the one out of thousand people out there that actually can do great content."

How successful can this new partnership be?
