Kurt Angle, Olympic champion and WWE Hall of Famer, returned to the organisation after 11 years wrestling elsewhere earlier this year and naturally this means he's getting a special place in this year's video game product. We press release he chimes in: "And now, I get to follow in the footsteps of many incredible names, like Bill Goldberg, Sting, Ultimate Warrior and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and be featured as the WWE 2K18 pre-order character."

Kurt Angle will be part of the bonus content offered for any pre-order of the game. Two of these characters, "American Hero" WWE and "Wrestling Machine" will be available for players who buy it before October 17, the official release date (even later for the Switch version since the game will be released later on this platform). Chris Snyder explains this choice to make Kurt Angle the Superstar of the 2L18 edition by the particular connection that the fans share with this mythical wrestler:

"Kurt Angle has been the most fan-requested Superstar in the WWE 2K franchise for some time now, so it's a pleasure to celebrate his popularity and incredible career through this year's WWE 2K18 pre-order offer," he said. "His WWE and amateur wrestling achievements are also a perfect fit to help carry the torch for this year's 'Be Like No One' worldwide marketing campaign. There's no question Kurt succeeds on his own terms in everything he does."

While the official announcement wasn't planned until Tuesday, the athlete failed to hold his tongue and announced his virtual return on Twitter more than ten days ago.

He joins the new generation of wrestlers represented by Seth Rollins, present on the cover of the game.

What do you think of Kurt Angle returning to WWE video games? Good news or simply someone you enjoy piledriving?
