If you've grown up with Mario games, there's a high chance you've experienced the Game Over screens when you run out of lives, but a recent tweet by the Japanese Twitter account for Super Mario Odyssey reveals that these will be a thing of the past in the new instalment.

"No matter how many times he fails, there is no Game Over," the tweet says, as translated by Polygon. Instead, coins now replace the lives system, and you lose coins when you die.

"We also wanted people to be able to, you know, you get into a kingdom and you can just kind of continually keep going through that kingdom without being pulled out, so that was why we kind of wanted to get rid of the lives idea," producer Yoshiaki Koizumi explained.

Is the new system better?
