Ever since Blizzard announced that new content will be revealed next week, many rumours have been circulating about it. As if that wasn't enough, the lead character artist Renaud Galand and the game director Jeff Kaplan released some statements too, further fueling the hype around these content, but unfortunately we already know what it won't be: a single-player campaign. To confirm this, Kaplan himself spoke in an interview with GameSpot, where he made it known that, at least for the moment, there are no plans for a single-player campaign in Overwatch, as it would be like developing a game from scratch. Kaplan said:
"For a 6v6 PvP game coming out with a whole single-player campaign is like making a brand new game in and of itself. I'm not sure our players understand the magnitude of development that would go behind that. But certainly it's a fascinating idea."
Moreover, as we already know, Blizzard can't even provide an editor map for the game, since the Overwatch engine is too new and there aren't development tools ready for the players, so implementation could take years. Blizzard has always been open to mods and modders, but now it'll take more time before they're able to support them.
We'll see what awaits us next Tuesday, then, when Blizzard will reveal this new content. Are you happy with Overwatch not having a single-player campaign?
