Obsidian Entertainment had a very successful Kickstarter campaign for the original Pillars of Eternity (Project Eternity) that saw backers pledge almost $4 million towards its creation. The sequel got its campaign not on Kickstarter, but on the combined crowdfunding/investment platform Fig where it quickly achieved its base target of $1.1 million, and currently it is approaching $3.1 million having just achieved the stretch goal of adding companion relationships with a good chance of reaching the next stretch goal of Sidekicks (4 sidekicks would be added to the game) at $3.25 million in the last three days of the campaign.

A majority of the funds amassed are from traditional backers of which there are more than 27,000, but clearly the game also benefits from the ability for people to invest for equity stakes over on Fig. Almost $1.5 in "Fig Funds" has been achieved.
