While PlayStation VR certainly is the most user friendly of the major VR headsets, a lot of fans still regard the number of cables it requires as a big drawback. HTC already has plans to rid its Vive headset of cables in the future, and it looks like Sony will follow suit.

According to a new patent filed by Sony (and as spotted by CGM), Sony have been experimenting with a wireless version of the PlayStation VR headset, and have also begun testing a lighthouse-like setup, using multiple projectors that utilise beam generators to determine the position of the headset in the room.

This is akin to the HTC Vive, which uses a similar technology to track the position of the wearer and the headset. Is this the first sign of a PSVR successor, or might the first headset be getting a comprehensive update?
