Call of Cthulhu

Knowledge is power, but it comes at a cost in Call of Cthulhu

We had a chat with Cyanide's Maximilien Lutz about the intriguing investigative RPG.

  • Text: Bengt Lemne

Narrative designer Maximilien Lutz offers some insights into the highly anticipated official Call of Cthulhu video game that's currently in development at Cyanide Studios.

"It's an RPG with investigation parts," says Lutz. "So gaining knowledge is really important. Knowledge is power and the more knowledge you will have, the more information you will gain, the more options you'll have to play. For example, in dialogues, if you have explored a location well, you will have a new entry in the dialogue and you can make more choices and gain more information."

A double edged sword as knowledge can come at the cost of your sanity.

"Sometimes you have to trade some sanity for information, so that can cost you your whole sanity if you spend too much."

"You will have a relationship with all the inhabitants of the island," says Lutz. "And it can evolve depending on the choices you make with them. If you make them angry they can become hostiles, and yo will have less options with them. But on the contrary if you become friendly with them, maybe you will gain more information or access to some part of the game. And some of them can be recruited and become companions in the game."

These companions won't tag along with you on cases, but you will be able to send them out on investigations of their own.

Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game is due out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One during the fourth quarter of this year.
