Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians development on ice

Quite some Kickstarter projects fail for one reason or another in the course of their development, either due to the ambitions of its developers or unforeseen problems. Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians seems to follow that exact path. In 2014 developer Playdek collected $660.000 and advertised the game as being a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Tactics with its creator Yasumi Matsuno involved in the project.

After many Kickstarter supporters were upset with the lack of progress and updates, more problems surfaced. Several key members of the development team have left, according to a statement published on their Kickstarter page. And that was the reason given for a significant impact on the development work itself and external communication. Meanwhile it would seem the Kickstarter funds have all been spent and Playdek needs to focus on some other projects that are closer to completition in order to secure cash flow. Meanwhile they are also looking into seeking help from external partners and developers, but for now the development of the game has been put on hold and many backers are now requesting their money back. If there's currently any money to be had from Playdek is an entirely different matter.
