Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes

Suda51: No More Heroes 3 "maybe in 20 to 30 years"

Translation: don't expect it any soon. But GhM-man expects GungHo's support, wants to make it and has a vision for Travis.

Grasshopper Manufacture's Suda Goichi had one thing pretty clear before flying from Tokyo to Barcelona last week; he knew he was going to be asked about No More Heroes 3. And thus, he had a fun, but not that hopeful, default answer ready.

"Maybe in 15 to 25 years", the Japanese creator told Gamereactor during a Gamelab video interview which will be available on the site shortly. But that might be too hopeful. "If the fans are willing to wait for maybe 20 or 30 years", he corrected during his panel a couple of hours later (the full panel will also available on the site soon).

As both Yu Suzuki and Keiji Inafune (both present at last year's Gamelab), successfully pitched their new games as Kickstarter crowdfunding campaigns, we wondered whether that would be the best way to bring Travis Touchdown back to Santa Destroy.

"Yeah, No More Heroes 3, I get a lot of requests from fans and I'm very grateful for that," he replied. "But I'm thinking it may happen within 15 years or so? (laughs). Maybe not through Kickstarter, but GungHo would of course be supportive if that were to happen, so we'd probably do that without Kickstarter but it might take a long time, so maybe 15 years or even 25 years! But it's No More Heroes 3, and hopefully fans will wait for it... or maybe not? I don't know! [laughs]".

That said, the developer is actually interested in further exploring Travis Touchdown as a main character. In a more serious answer:

"I think I have the vision that Travis forgot something, so I really have to have him to go back and get back what he has forgotten. But yeah, I definitely want to make it possible, but I also want to create something new, so maybe within 15 to 25 years (laughs)!"

There you have it. It might of course be that Suda-san is just kidding and could get back to his best-known universe after, say, Let it Die and another couple of projects in like, 7 years?
