Bethesda has confirmed that the retail version of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, is to launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC a week after the standalone expansion releases digitally. The retail launch will take place on May 15, following the planned May 5 digital launch.

The Nazi zombies appearing in the eight chapters of The Old Blood will have a range of different attacks, as exec producer Jerk Gustafsson from Machine Games said: "These types of enemies can be tricky, because they don't typically have range weapons, but in The Old Blood, some of them actually use a rifle, and we also have some intense dash attacks!"

"In terms of features and content, almost everything is new," Gustafsson confirmed so as to reassure players worried about recycled assets. "That includes everything from the environments to the weapons and enemies."

Senior producer John Jennings also explained why the new standalone goes back in time: "We get to explore things that were only hinted at in New Order. We get to find out what the Nazis were up to, and reveal a little bit about how they actually got some of this advanced technology that let them win World War II."

"It really is a prequel," Jennings added, explaining the timeline. "The last scene of Old Blood is a couple of hours before the start of New Order in terms of the timeline, so it sets things up perfectly."
