Eutechnyx's Ed Martin has confirmed that Nascar 14 won't be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One because there isn't enough of an install base on those two consoles to justify development costs.

"We took a good, hard look at it, but there just isn't enough hardware out there yet to justify the cost of development," Martin explained in an interview with Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard.

"It costs us about $6 million to develop a next-gen version of NASCAR," Martin added. "You have to sell an awful lot of copies in order to meet the development costs, on top of all the licensing. It just doesn't add up for us right now. We own the rights, and we absolutely have plans, but it won't be later this year."

Despite selling 3 million plus Xbox Ones, and over 4 million PS4s, Eutechnyx doesn't consider there to be enough potential gamers to make the sort of investment required to port the game.

Nascar 14 is set to launch in North America on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on February 18, and the game will land in Europe shortly thereafter, but not on Xbox 360.
