Octopath Traveler was launched last year on the Nintendo Switch by Square Enix, being received positively by the gaming world (check out our review), and it turns out we'll be getting more from the series, at least in the form of a recently revealed mobile game coming this year.

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent (as it translates to in English) was unveiled by Square Enix on its website, with Gematsu reporting that it's a single-player RPG as we'd expect, and that it's free to play. It's set in Orsterra before the events of the first game, which we also find out has passed the 1.5 million mark in terms of shipped units and digital sales.

Champions of the Continent will of course feature the same HD-2D visuals (the same one trademarked by Square Enix not too long ago), with 3D screen effects added on top. The battles will let you command eight characters in a party, using swipe controls suitable for mobile devices, and you can choose between three champions for the story. In terms of field commands, you also have options like listening for information, stealing items, hiring an ally, and more.

Those waiting for a new console game in the series might be interested to hear that the Octopath Traveler Twitter account has said: "Everyone waiting for a new game on console, we're sorry, but production will take a little while longer, so in the meantime, we hope you can enjoy" this game.

For more on the mobile game check out the trailer below, but bear in mind that it's Japanese. Would you play this?
