Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

New multi-builds in Lego Star Wars "mirrors the tactility of Lego"

We talk to Tim Wileman about Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We recently had a chance to chat with associate producer Tim Wileman about Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. More specifically about the new and improved gameplay features the game offers.

"It's a fantastic privilege for us," says Wileman. "11 years on from the original Lego Star Wars game, to go full circle, take all of the learning we've done and all of the technology that's moved forward and we've pulled out all the stops for this game."

One of the more exciting new features in the game is the multi-build feature where players will have to think a bit more when constructing new objects.

"When we were creating the multi-builds feature, we were wanting to recreate what kids do with Lego. If you give a pile of Lego bricks to a kid they're going to build different objects and break them apart, and build them again, and that's what we've managed to recreate in the game. Traditionally in our games you would hold circle and it would build something, now you get the option to build multiple objects from the same bricks which has allowed us to do really cool things with puzzles and humour and the way you navigate the levels, it mirrors the tactility of Lego that we're always trying to do."

We also asked about the range of characters included, and while Wileman didn't want to confirm or deny the inclusion of Jar-Jar Binks he did have this to say:

"We've got 200 characters, which is a lot of characters, but we wanted to cram in all of the famous and iconic, not just from The Force Awakens, but from episodes one to six as well. They've all got their own special abilities, and their own animations, and their own characteristics."
