New GTFO documentary takes us Behind the Scenes

We get a glimpse into how the story will unfold, some of the Alien-inspired environments, and how the concept has evolved.

GTFO developer 10 Chambers Collective has unveiled a brand new Behind the Scenes documentary detailing the development of their game. In the 10-minute long video we get to see new gameplay and hear details about the game we've not heard before.

"GTFO is about a group of four people trapped in this underground complex, kept there against their will, forced down into the depths to fetch things or carry out objectives for this unknown entity called The Warden," developer Simon Viklund explains. "The underground complex has been abandoned for many years and it's been overrun by flesh-eating, grotesque monsters, and you wanna get outta there."

We were certainly impressed with GTFO when we saw it at E3 last year, and now we get to hear more of an insight from the developers within the Swedish team, led by Ulf Andersson. Here we see how the concept has evolved, and how key members like writer Adam Gascoine - who has worked on Doom and The Last of Us - have helped shape the project.

We also find out that the story won't unfold via a traditional campaign, but through free updates to the game. Environments have been shown too, inspired by the first Alien film, with more due to be added in the future. For now though the new screenshots below show off some of the environments we will see.

Perhaps the core message that the team wants to get across though is that this is really an experience aimed at hardcore gamers who are prepared to work together to survive down in the complex. "It is very challenging. It is something that will put a different strain on your team than other games, but if you're up for the challenge - this is something for you," says Ulf Andersson.

The game is due for release this spring but right now you can watch the new video below. Are you up for the challenge?
