New features for Dynasty Warriors 9 detailed

Crafting, open-world adventuring and more highlighted in new trailer.

Koei Tecmo has just sent over a trailer in which some of the new features coming to Dynasty Warriors 9 were laid out in more detail.

As you probably already know by now, DW9 will see the series move into open-world territory, which means a number of reasonably significant gameplay changes. For example, players will be able find scrolls that let them craft new weapons, and stopping off at your own base or at a tea room (how quaint) will let you prepare food that, if consumed before heading into battle, will buff your character in a number of different ways.

Elsewhere Omega Force mentioned that players will encounter bandits and beasts out in the open-world, and defeating them in battle should yield up interesting items. Players will also be able to upgrade their horses, and the further they travel and the more horseback battles you take part in, the better your trusty steed will get.

Finally, a few pre-order/early purchase incentives were detailed for those who go digital. Those who go for the digital version will get seven costumes for "fan-favourite" characters, inspired by traditional Chinese undergarment styles ("the Dudou Costume for Guan Yinping, Diaochan, Sun Shangxiang, Lu Lingqi, Wang Yi, and Wang Yuanji, and an imposing Beijing Opera-style costume for Zhao Yun"). Meanwhile, those who grab the Digital Deluxe version will th same content, three weapons ("The Amethyst Iron Blade, The Crimson Ring Blade and The Jade Splendid Swords"), and the game's season pass. Now you know.

We got our hands on the game late last year and you can read our impressions by hitting this link. Dynasty Warriors 9 is heading to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 13.

REVIEW. Written by Sam Bishop

"Sure, the shift to open world wasn't really necessary, and doesn't really bring any huge advantages with it, but it's a very fun game nonetheless."
