Niantic and Warner Bros. Games have revealed the first gameplay details for Android and iOS game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the augmented reality (AR) game based around the popular franchise from JK Rowling, and the website also gives a deeper look into the game as well.
The game was co-developed and co-published by WB Games San Francisco and Niantic, and is part of the Portkey Games label, devoted to Wizarding World experiences. In this game you are a recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, and you have to investigate an incident in the universe, with wizards and witches uniting to cast spells and return 'Foundables' (creatures, peoples, memories, and other things) trapped by confoundable magic to their proper place so that the magic can be kept secret from Muggles. These Foundables appear in real locations like banks, zoos, art galleries, and more.
Similar to Pokéstops in Pokémon Go, Inns will let you replenish energy, magical ingredients, and Portkeys that unlock AR portals. Spell Energy is used every time you cast a spell, and you can find ingredients in the world to make potions as well, these being marked on the map and varying depending on time of day, environment, and weather. Portmanteaus can also be unlocked to reveal Portkeys so you can visit iconic locations, including Ollivander's Wand Shop.
You'll also get to engage in combat as well, as you visit Fortresses with wizarding challenges in. These see you battle against other foes in multiplayer, real-time duels, with rarer rewards the higher level threat there is. You can specialise in different professions like Professors, Aurors, and Magizoologists, each having their own abilities that are particularly helpful in these challenges.
