The V&A museum in London is currently hosting its own video game exhibition called Design/Play/Disrupt, but now we know that the National Videogame Museum is opening in Sheffield next month too, becoming the UK's only permanent games museum.

The NVM - as it's known - will open on November 24 and feature many arcade machines and playable consoles, as well as exhibitions of game studios, the games themselves, and more. There will also be cultural festivals, events, clubs for kids, and future exhibitions to do with the industry's beginnings and looking forward to games in development as well.

This started life as he National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham, and has hosted previous exhibitions like Football Manager and Monument Valley, except now they're looking for "more ambitious shows," as explained in the press release.

"We've always tried to do more than just put out games for people to play", said Iain Simons, Culture Director of the BGI, which runs the NVM. "In our dynamic new space, we're bringing videogame creators into the Museum to meet their players, showing visitors what games mean and responding to our community's requests and ideas for new exhibits."

The NVM is supported by many figures in the industry, including Ian Livingstone, Sumo Digital, and Rebellion, but the non-profit is looking for more help from the sector to help take the culture to even more visitors.
