Mulaka lets you become a Tarahumara myth in Mexico
And the profits help the Tarahumara people.
Mulaka is another one of those those indie games that went under the radar of Gamereactor in 2017, but it was featured in Nindies in summer and ID@Xbox. Mexican team Lienzo has developed an action-adventure game inspired by the Tarahumara, an old culture from the North of Mexico, and the game presents - in a low-poly style - a story about a shaman called Sukurúame in the mountains of Sierra Tarahumara.
The game teleports the player to real locations for fast-paced platforming and varied combat. Sukurúame uses abilities given by demigods to fight creatures based on Tarahumara mythology, but also solves puzzles too. Text recorded in the native language and local music complete the indigenous atmosphere.
The game will first come to PS4 and Steam on February 27, but will land on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One two and three days later respectively. Lienzo will share 10% of the income generated by Mulaka with NGOs engaged with the Tarahumara community in Sierra Rarámuri as well, which is a nice touch.
