Monster Hunter: World Iceborne beta starts this week

If you want to see the new content coming to the game, clear your schedule this weekend.

If you're intrigued by the prospect of a return to Monster Hunter: World in the upcoming Iceborne expansion, then we've got some news that may well intrigue you, but only if you're playing on a PS4.

The PS4 beta for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will get started at 11am BST on Friday, June 21, and will run through until 11am BST on Monday, June 24. PS Plus subscribers will get to play first, but a second beta will follow for one and all (you won't even need the base game) starting the following week at the same time (11am BST on Friday, June 28 through to 11am BST on Monday, July 1).

The full expansion is set to land on September 6, when it will launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Players will have to have completed the main story in the base game (and hit Hunter Rank 16) to access the content, some of which will be accessible this month in the beta. Here's what you can expect to play later this week, as well as a new trailer.

The beta offers players three quest choices, including the beginner-friendly Great Jagras hunt from Monster Hunter: World for newcomers, the brand new horned brute wyvern Banbaro for an intermediate challenge or returning series favorite Tigrex for the fiercest of hunters. The beta will let players test out all 14 weapon types in any of the three quests and the training area. The weapons include new features plus there are new Slinger tool options such as the Clutch Claw grapple mechanic. Upon completing each quest for the first time, hunters can earn a total of three item packs containing helpful consumable items that will be available to use in the full version of the Iceborne expansion when it releases. With more monsters and game info to be revealed, this is just the tip of the Iceborne!

REVIEW. Written by Kieran Harris

"World is the series at its best and after 14 years of cult fandom, we think its time for it to grace the limelight."
