The MMORPG Ashes of Creation has taken Kickstarter by storm and has now reached its Kickstarter goal of $750,000 USD, hitting the $1 million mark in less than 36 hours.
It's been a while since a video game has hit the million dollar mark, with Friday the 13th: The Game in May 2016 being the last one, but Ashes of Creation has managed the impressive feat. The game is a fantasy MMORPG that allows player to build their own cities and tear down empires, also featuring quests and events that can permanently change the game world, and the developer, Intrepid Studios, says nothing is without consequences in the game:
"But change for change's sake means nothing without consequence. That means that these changes and these choices must have repercussions, they must be *felt* throughout the rest of the world. It means that when a player makes a choice in a quest, that choice can't be undone. It means that when that volcano erupts and destroys a city, the landscape is forever altered. It means that when a tyrant makes life difficult for his citizens, his citizens can rise up against him. Players have choices to make, those choices lead to change, and that change has consequence. Day to day, server to server, the world will be in flux, and history will remain where it always should, in the hands of the player."
The developer also promises to refund all backers if the game doesn't launch, which would currently mean paying back $1,027,418. Why do you think Ashes of Creation has been such a hit?
