Today, without further ado, we're talking on a bit of a sadder story, 00:31.440 --> 00:36.920 it seems that morale at the Star Wars Jedi and Titanfall developer Respawn is at an all-time 00:36.920 --> 00:41.840 low as things just aren't looking great for the studio, so if you're not familiar, Respawn 00:41.840 --> 00:48.600 was initially a development studio started in the early 2010s from Call of Duty veterans 00:48.600 --> 00:52.080 and veterans of other shooters that made the Titanfall games, they've since gone on to 00:52.080 --> 00:56.240 make the Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi Survivor games, they've also made 00:56.240 --> 01:01.040 Apex Legends, it's quite a big studio under the EA banner but things haven't been great 01:01.040 --> 01:05.800 for EA lately, especially with just this week we've seen Cliffhanger Studios close down, 01:05.800 --> 01:11.720 the Black Panther game be cancelled and before that 100 people at Respawn were let go with 01:11.720 --> 01:16.880 an unannounced sort of Titanfall spin-off project, it's believed to have been cancelled 01:16.880 --> 01:21.140 as well. Now, there are still games in the works at Respawn, obviously they're still 01:21.140 --> 01:25.960 working on Apex Legends, they're still working on the third game in the Star Wars Jedi series 01:26.360 --> 01:32.960 they're also working, excuse me, on Star Wars Rogue Faction I believe, Rogue Squadron I 01:32.960 --> 01:38.120 think it's called, which is the sort of strategy game that comes mainly from Bit Reactor but 01:38.120 --> 01:45.120 it is developed in assistance with Respawn. But, according to a post on Blue Sky by senior 01:45.120 --> 01:49.760 encounter designer at Respawn, Patrick Wren, morale has been at an all-time low at the 01:49.760 --> 01:55.040 studio, he can say that much and so it's kind of understandable as to why things at EA, 01:55.120 --> 01:58.880 as I said, generally just aren't looking good at the minute, despite them still claiming 01:58.880 --> 02:04.160 that they've got three Marvel games I think in the works alongside Motive's Iron Man game, 02:04.160 --> 02:08.400 the Black Panther cancellation is something that's going to be seen as not really promising 02:08.400 --> 02:13.960 for future projects because EA has also said that it wants to focus on a few core franchises, 02:13.960 --> 02:18.400 that probably being the sports titles, Battlefield and perhaps something like Star Wars Jedi, 02:18.400 --> 02:24.160 but if you think about how big of an opportunity a Black Panther game could have been, then 02:24.200 --> 02:30.200 you really start to realise that EA is, things aren't looking great at the moment, so layoffs 02:30.200 --> 02:37.040 have been a trend in 2025 almost as much as they have been in 2024 and 2023, but the fact 02:37.040 --> 02:41.400 that we're still seeing this is obviously going to impact morale, especially with a 02:41.400 --> 02:46.440 lot of these projects being cancelled at Respawn and in other EA-owned studios, basically it's 02:46.440 --> 02:50.320 not looking good for EA right now. Things can get better though and I hope they do get 02:50.320 --> 02:54.840 better personally because it's always nice when people who get to create cool things 02:54.840 --> 02:58.200 get to do so without feeling like there's going to be an axe over their head at any 02:58.200 --> 03:02.520 moment firing them from their job.
