The Japanese Business Journal reports (via VG247) that several people in Nintendo's management want to see the company's biggest games on Smart devices, like phones and tablets. Problem is, Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata, is against it.

Iwata believes Nintendo games are best served on Nintendo's own hardware, an approach that has served the company well in the past. Wii U, however, is not doing so great and it seems that some members from Nintendo's management want to see Mario & friends go mobile.

The report on Business Journal goes as far as indicating that some members are trying to force Iwata out from the leadership, due to his strong opposition against going mobile. Nintendo's 3DS, however, is doing great, despite mobile devices competition, and that's one of Iwata's strongest aces.

Let's see how this supposed internal dispute at Nintendo will play out, but the idea of playing Mario on a smartphone seems rather appealing.
