Mahershala Ali has officially moved on from Blade

"If they wanted to do it, we would've done the movie."

It has been more than seven years since Mahershala Ali stepped out on stage at a Marvel appearance at SDCC to reveal him joining the MCU as none other than the Daywalker Blade. Since then, the only live-action Blade appearance we've seen has been from Wesley Snipes, reprising his role from the 2000s movies.

In animation, Blade did appear in Marvel Zombies, with an appearance that certainly resembles Ali, but the actor looks like he'll never be making that a reality. Speaking to GQ, Ali said that he was done with Marvel at this point. "If they wanted to do it, we would've done it," he said.

After the original director departed the MCU Blade movie in 2022, things never really picked up again. "I didn't feel great about the fact that things finished the way that they did [with Blade]; I like seeing things through," he said. Ali did get to reunite with Blade's director Bassam Tariq, as they joined forces for a new movie called Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.

Ali revealed he'd trained for a long time to get into the physical condition required to play Blade, but that all of it never got put to good use. "I have moved on ... I'm good ... you had me under contract ... if they wanted to do the movie, we would've done the movie. So we're not doing the movie ... They didn't want to do it, so they should answer that question," he said.

So, it looks like if Marvel ever does want to put Blade back on the big screen, they'll need to find another actor to do it.
