Back in 2017 Amazon signed a deal to produce a series in the Lord of the Rings universe, and now Deadline reports it has been renewed for a second season, with Amazon reassembling the writers, as confirmed to Deadline by Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke, who added the second series is already in the works.

This isn't too surprising, as the initial deal with a multi-series one, but it's still reassuring that Amazon has faith in the project. That said, the series will go on a hiatus of four or five months after filming the first two episodes of the debut season, using that time to map the series out and write most of the scripts for Season 2.

The series will bring us new stories in the world of Middle-earth, but other than that we don't have many details about it, since Amazon has been pretty secretive about the project, despite anticipation around it.
